This program is a great opportunity to articulate your European background with what you'll learn from American hospitality management. The main recommendation would be: Act like a sponge, try to get all the knowledge you can get, meet people, and this entire experience will be the best complement to your previous skills.
In the academic program, the most interesting thing was the fact that we were working on many different topics the way we wanted to work on it. I mean that the most important was not to get the knowledge, it was to get it and know how to use it. Our professors always insisted on the fact that it's not the "what" that counts, this is the "Why". This American approach is definitely more pragmatic and this is what made us improve in our operational management.

During my training, I was Dining Room Manager at Nick & Stef's, one of Patina Restaurant Group's restaurant. I had to work with a 35 members team under the supervision of my General Manager. I learnt everything I am using now in the way to manage a restaurant. Floor management, cost control, team leading, commercial strategy, this company involved me in every single part of their business. This was a progressive and very beneficial experience that gave me the keys to improve and make my management skills stronger, all those keys I am using today.

I would resume this year this way: Radically different academic approach + Involving training + a year in California = A real value in my resume.
I wouldn't have the job I have today if I did not have the chance to get this degree and strengthen my professional skills in the meantime.

Once, in Vatel L.A. school, you asked us to tell you if we will miss Los Angeles when we will be back in France.
I don't like reading so it has been hard for me to follow this intensive year of readings. You have been the most generous readings-giver of the year :)
Today, I have started to read some management books and started to have a lot of enthusiasm reading them.
And I also started to do my own handbook, like we used to do in your marketing class!
I DO miss Los Angeles and the geatest experience ever: Vatel Los Angeles!

Cela fait très longtemps, et à vrai dire, vous me manquez énormément, vous, ainsi que toute l'équipe Vatel Los Angeles, avec qui j'ai patagé des moments merveilleux et mémorables.
En revenant au Maroc, je me suis rendu compte du poids du Diplôme pour lequel on a tous travaillé pendant une année, et ce que je peux dire, c'est que cela en valait vraiment la peine. Lorsque j'ai commencé à rechercher du travail, à chaque entretien, la différence avec les autres candidats était ce MBA, tout nouveau, qui donne un certain poids et attise la curiosité des employeurs.
Tout naturellement, une de mes missions en tant que Vatélien est de valoriser du mieux que je peux ce diplôme, et c'est ce que je continue de faire dans mon travail, en montrant que c'est une valeur ajoutée considérable dans l'acheminement des compétences sur le terrain.
Lors d'un entretien à Rabat, la capitale, pour l'ouverture du nouveau "SOFITEL rabat, jardin des Roses", cette différence sur mon CV a attiré l'attention du Directeur Général qui a voulu me faire un entretien personnellement.
Bien évidemment, j'ai été à la hauteur de l'image Vatel los Angeles, comme on a toujours dit en classe, "La crème de la crème"!!! :)
Je travail désormais dans cet établissement luxueux, en tant que directeur de nuit, "night manager".
J'ai une équipe de 30 personnes, dont le "night audit", réceptionnistes du soir, valets, housemen, buttler, room service, cuisines, sécurité.. pour assurer que tous les départements continuent à bien fonctionner, en optimisant les services, et surtout à représenter le GM dans quelques situations qui puissent survenir au courant de la nuit, en établissant ainsi des rapports chaque nuit que je transmet directement au GM.
Cela fait un mois que j'ai commencé, et continuerait à montrer la valeur des vatéliens, surtout ceux de Los Angeles, en étant le porte-drapeau, ici au Maroc!
Quant à vous, j'espère de tout mon coeur que tout va bien pour vous.
Cela me plairait énormément d'avoir de vos nouvelles. Je vous remercie pour tout ce que vous avez pu faire pour nous, et ne vous remercierai jamais assez!
