Molly LAVIK
Jeffrey Schieberl
J.D., MBA

Dr Schieberl has more than 20 years of energy senior management experience involving both domestic and international operations. He has served as President/CEO of a natural gas processing company. He has also been Vice President of Law and Government Relations of an independent oil and gas company. He has effectively managed a unionized workforce in a heavily regulated industry. Dr Schieberl interfaced with Southern California Edison regularly in several different contexts including the negotiation of various agreements on behalf of Union Pacific Resources Company and Harbor Cogeneration Company during its design, construction and after the plan came online. In addition, Dr. Schieberl served as Executive Director of an industry association that represented the interests of Southern California large natural gas fueled cogeneration facilities. Members of that industry association included Texaco, Arco, Union Pacific resources company, Mission Energy and several small independent producing entities. California Governor Pete Wilson appointed Dr Schieberl to serve on an interstate Energy Commission. In that capacity he represented the interests of the people of the State of California in the development of national energy policy, as well as uniform industry operating rules and regulations and energy related litigation matters.

AN APPROACH TO AMERICAN HUMAN RESOURCES
Course Introduction

This course explores the management of human resources as practiced in the U.S. In addition to the traditional components of human resources management attention is given to the legal aspects of the employer – employee relationship. Perennial potential bases for legal liability is explored along with viable mitigation measures that serve to minimize potential liability.

Course Objective
  • General understanding of the human resources function, General understanding of the American legal system and its application to society in general and business in particular.
  • Develop ability to recognize, analyze and identify possible solutions to potential human resources management as well as legal problems in everyday business activities.
  • Awareness and recognition of future human resources and legal trends and their impact upon business.

  • BUSINESS ETHICS
    ELECTIVE

    This class addresses philosophical foundation of ethics and its applicability to day –to-day business activities. The course explores ethical considerations relative to several business practices as well as provide the students with a model for making ethically sound business decisions.
